Wigan 10k Glory For Parky's Son

Gary’s son Luke yesterday completed the Wigan 10k in 45 minutes and 40 seconds raising vital funds for the Gary Parkinson Trust.

The race started in Wigan town centre and went out to the DW Stadium, home of Wigan Athletic and Wigan Warriors, before following the route back through Mesnes Park and to the finish line on Market Street.

Luke had set himself a time to run the race in under 50 minutes, but smashed his target on a red hot day in the town, finishing 398th in a field of over 3000 runners. Luke was supported by the rest of his family including his Dad, who was there on the finishing line to show his support to his son.

Gary said, “I would like to give a big thank you to my son Luke for running the Wigan 10k and raising vital funds for my Trust. It was great to be down there on the finish line and see him still running so strongly at the end. He’s certainly a lot quicker than I ever was in my playing days!

“We would both like to pass on our thanks to everybody that has donated, as the early count shows we have raised over £400 for the Gary Parkinson Trust. Thanks again for your support!”
